Now reading in Hebrews! I decided to read this book as we will be going through Hebrews at my Bible Study this fall. Love the Bible Study and love my sisters there!
Verse 11 of chapter 1 was my go-to to chew on this morning: “Are they not all ministering spirits sent forth to minister for those who will inherit salvation?” I was so blessed as I sat in the actuality of Jesus’ angels around me. And THEN came the next verses (2:1-4) to balance out my little mountain top experience, LOL.
Coming on the heels of the warm-fuzzy angel verse, Hebrews 2:1-4 warn the believer about the “danger of the drift”; as in, drifting away from the joy of our salvation. If I am not mindful, my flesh will lull me away – taking Jesus’ sacrificial gift for granted. The drift-tendency is a Step #1* reality check!
The above said, God is ever patient – overwhelmingly so! I encourage you to drink in His unconditional love when you recognize drift in your heart (versus going the path of self-judgement or even, blowing it off). As we all would agree, humbly receiving His love time and time again tenderizes our hearts and draws us into a deeper relationship with Jesus. So, it’s all good.
Bear with me as I “drift” a bit further here with the “joy of our salvation” pondering :)….. Aren’t new Christians with their “firey” faiths incredibly reality-grounding to those of us who have known Jesus for a minute or two? Their joy is contagious and their sold-out faith is strength and joy to the rest of us. Can I get an amen?
Of course, all that zeal needs grounding in God’s Word. Indeed, every person starting out needs someone to come alongside him/her; however, I will say that I find myself just as needy for them and their bountiful salvation joy in my life! None of us are meant to “fly solo.” I do believe that grabbing hold of this relational perspective helps us to relate on the same level. Regardless of where we are at in our journey with Jesus, we all have something to give and receive. This is IMHO something important for respectfully relating to others – Christian or not.
